Description

First a little appology for those who watch me because of my woodcaving or Rainmeter creations. I make and post many different things. However, don't worry, I am going to upload some carved christmass gifts and after that I might get to some new Rainmeter themes...

So, as you surely know, we play DnD every year at New Year's Eve and this is the map for the main game of New Year' Eve 2013; the citty of Waelham. Actually, I started to draw it in 2012 and slowly continued and finished it in March 2013 (and I almost wen mad doing it). There are some mistakes and some houses are bigger than they should be (especially in the Port or on the Bridge) but I am quite happy about it (and that it is done and I might use it for several games.) It was inspired by several things or towns; one of them was Prague where I spent several years, another was book London by E. Ruthefurd (great reding if you are interrested in London or England an in the history and links from previous generations), then there was Cardiff from Dr Who/Torchwood universe and a little bit of Gotham, Kirkwall from Dragon Age II and Ankh-Morpork

Wealham is the greatest city on the western shores of our world founded by men. It is big, very old, very rich and very corrupted:) It has a long history which began with the wars against dragons who lived there and contained another wars and conflict with barbarian kingdoms in the south and elven havens in northward. It a free city or a city-state with it's own emperor and claims only a little part of land, woods and some willages in the surrounding areas. It is tenanted by all usual DnD races (well, races from the Czech sibling of DnD) and by mysterious Fomorians (half-demon race from nearby isles) and marten folk (big, humanid martens who can speak and lived here before the men). It looks great and marvelous but beneath that glimmer it has a rotten soul. Almost everybode cheats there, steals and bribes, all guards are being paid by criminals and the members of the City council usually fight against each other to have more power here. Also, it is located on a rift in the reality where the energy, creatures or items from the magical or another realms stream to our world. It consists of a several various districts:

The Citadel: The Citadel is the greatest castle and has the biggest tower in Waelham and of course, it is the mansion of the emperor of Waelham. There is a beacon on the top of the Citadel that used to be a warning whe dragons were approaching.

The Port: The Port is one of the oldest parts of the city; it has a broad streets that are full of merchants and marketeers and it is a one big market place and the center of the trade. It also has some channels for transporting the cargo from ships to the warehouses and that connect it with the New town. It is very crowded and lively place as there are lots of people comming and leaving Wealham here. And of course, as there are a lost of sailors, there is the most of the pubs, taverns and brothels here. There is also very high criminality here; almost everybody gets pickpocketed here and if you walk these streets alone at night, you might get killed for a few coins or for a pretty hat. It's greatest pub (and the best brothel) is calld the Poison Ivy Inn or more often the Penelope's.

The Hillsides: It is the poorest part of the city and a slum district. It is occupied by beggars and low criminals that group in gangs to be able to steal more or just to beat more people. It is located on the hill side and it is usual that the "street" runs on the flat roofs from the lower street. It is very dirty part of the city where nobody want's to go.

Old Town: Again one of the oldest parts of the city. It is the historical center and downtown of the city and it looks like the usual medieval town. It's streets are narrow, mazy and organic and sooner or later everybody gets lost there. It is the center of the craftsmanship and some of the oldest families of Waelham live here. Also, the City council meets here in the town hall.

The Bridge: As the title says, it a huge bridge that connects the Old Town and the Dead Town on the other banks of the river. As is was usual for medieval brigdes, there are houses on it, however there should be more houses than I have drawn there because this bridge is really big one:) It is the cultural vein of the town as there are many pubs and clubs where artist perform all the time. There is a lot of painters, musicians, street artists, jugglers and other similar people working in the pubs or streets and it is alive even during the night. It also has a famous the Huntress's inn which is the biggest, best and also the first inn on the Bridge.

The Isle: For some practical reasons, almost all the wizards, alchemists and magicians of Wealham have been relocated to the Isle so this is truly a magical place. It is a good place to find a shops with magical weapons and items (usualy called "toy store" by us), enchaters, soothsayers and similar. There is also famous Adria's Magical University and a residence of the Torch institute that hunts down the wizards and sorcerers without the licence, dark mages, necromancers and demons or magical creatures that escaped from some experiment or from the rift.

Dead Town: It is the most quiet part of Waelham as there is only a well guarded prison, few houses and a big graveyard or necropolis. There is some special friary that figths the undead.

Ghetto: It is a place reseved for the marten folk. They have their little community here, their own rules and their head who represents all martent in the City coucil (however she has no right to decide about the citty affairs).

New Town: It is the newest part of Waelham and also the representative one. It's streets are usuali wide, clean and paved, it has a broad boulevards and avenues, there is a great cathedral, amphitheatre, greatest theatre called Myr, the court, museum, university, libraries, Nymph Bathouse, nice gardens and the finest restaurants and shops. (And there is also some industrial part by the river.) It is also common to live in flats here but it is not problem for a rich merchant to have a house in the New Town.

Gold Town: The Gold town is the place where the oldest and richest families of Waelham have their palaces and mansions. Streets here are clean and nice with avenue of trees, the "public" gardens are fancy with statues and there is also a great dancing and concert hall. Very upper-class and snobbish and "normal" people aren't usually allowed to enter here:)

Moon Town: The Moon town are great caves beneath Wealham with a great lake that always reflects the moon (if it is on the sky). It is occupied mostly by dwarves and dark elves and there is also the black market located here.

There is also the Sunken Town which foundered in the great battle agains dragons and the Lost Town (also called Lledrithon) that was somehow lost and where are located the greatest treasuries of the old kings.

I already have some stories and pictures of some important people that I might post here later.

Please, feel free to use any of my/our maps for any of your non-profit use. Just don't forget to link me. (Or ask me, I should have bigger verisions of my pictures.)
