Wooden gems by Squirrel-slayer Wooden gems by Squirrel-slayer
As usual, I should be doing something more important but I am not in mood so I am uploading pictures to DA:)
I made those partly for practice, partly to experiment again with wood and stones and partly to have a reason to watch TV shows (I watch them when I carve):)
As before, they are handcarved, polished with a sandpaper, treated with linseed oil and the stones are embeded there with no glue or epoxide. I wanted to try to make some jewels with some simple nature shapes and tranlucent or transparent stones. Therefore they aren't fancy at all. With the exception of the left one - which is made of linded - they are made from a cherry wood. From the left side, the stones are a jade, rock-crystal, calcite (limestone) and agate. The diameter of the round ones is 5cm.
It was quite tricky to take a picture of them because they look best when light is shining trough them but I wanted to have them all on a single picture. So they are placed on "standing" pins so some light could get under them and reflect from the white background through them:)
